Theorems for Finding Zeros of Polynomials

The factor theorem states that if f(x) is a polynomial of a degree n>0 and a∈R such that f(a) = 0, then (x-a) is a factor of the polynomial f(x). Conversely, if (x-a) is a factor, then a is a zero of f(x). In this section, we shall study factor theorem and its use in finding the zeros/roots of a polynomial and in the factorisation of polynomials.
